Why a tool paper on collaboration between the Global North and the Global South?
Everyone has the right to tell their own stories. Stories about global development can – and should – never be told without the people whose lives they concern. This is also the best way to give people in Denmark a nuanced and accurate picture of the world.
Many Danish communication practitioners have long worked closely with actors in the Global South. They strive to place voices from the Global South at the centre of communication in Denmark – but there is always room, and responsibility, to do better.
What does it contain?
This tool paper is about partnerships in information and engagement work. It highlights who initiates a project, who selects the themes, platforms, and target audiences, and how tasks and responsibilities are allocated between actors in a project or in the production of a specific communication product.
It also includes practical advice from actors in the Global South to Danish practitioners, helping to promote meaningful inclusion and cooperation. The practical advice has been gathered through conversations with a range of Ghanaian civil society organisations.
Who is it for?
This tool paper is relevant for all types of actors working to inform and engage people in the Global North on global development issues — including civil society organisations, journalists, media outlets, educational and cultural institutions, and more.
