The next application deadline for Communication grants is not scheduled yet, but will be in 2026. The exact date will be published during the autumn of 2025.

What does OpEn support?

At the heart of the Information and Civic Engagement Fund (OpEn) is the belief that partnerships are a strength – and that those who own the stories should be the ones telling them. In other words, the people around the world who experience first-hand how issues such as climate change, gender equality, war, or other global development challenges affect their lives.

The fund welcomes a wide variety of approaches and methods. You can apply for support to create rap workshops, documentaries, educational materials, articles, summer camp activities, podcast series, co-created art projects, poetry collections, books, computer games, and much more. The only limit is your imagination – as long as you can convince the assessment committee that your chosen method is the right one to inspire awareness, reflection, or action on global development among your target audience.

If you receive a grant from OpEn, you’ll also become part of a strong and vibrant community of passionate and skilled people who, like you, are committed to informing and engaging others.

Step-by-step: How to apply

Here you can find the necessary information on how to apply for funding from OpEn.

Before applying to the OpEn Fund, you should read the fund’s guidelines. These outline, among other things, the requirements that Danish applicants must meet.

There are different guidelines for regular OpEn projects and for Communication Grants. You can find the guidelines on the dedicated webpage 'Guidelines and Templates' related to either OpEn projects og Communication Grants.

Locate and complete the application form for either a regular OpEn project or a Communication Grant. Templates are available on the dedicated 'Guidelines and templates' webpage for either OpEn projects or Communication Grants.

The application must be signed by the main applicant and all partners. It must be submitted in Word format or as a copyable PDF.

You can find the budget templates and guidelines for each funding type on their respective 'Guidelines and Templates' pages.

Before submitting an application, basic information about the main applicant and any partners must be completed in the application system Vores CISU.

The main applicant is responsible for entering the information about the partners.

CISU uses this basic information to assess whether the main applicant and partners meet the eligibility criteria and to evaluate their organisational capacity.

The information will be saved in 'Vores CISU', so applicants only need to update their data when applying again in the future.

Log in to Vores CISU
Click “Applications” in the menu on the left
Click “Create” at the bottom of the page
Select the fund you wish to apply to
Choose the type of intervention you want to apply for under the selected fund (OpEn project or Communication Grant)
Enter a title for your application (keep it as short as possible)
Click “Next” at the bottom of the page
Enter data for the Danish organisation and any partners. Please note that you can only click “Save” once all mandatory fields have been completed
Upload the application, budget, and any required attachments, such as a declaration on receipt of de minimis support, letters of intent, or a cover letter
When your application is ready, submit it to CISU, which will process it within the timeframe specified in the guidelines for the relevant funding modality.

Applicants for an OpEn project or a Communication Grant can request up to an hour of advisory support before submitting their application.

Before the session, an OpEn Fund advisor will review a draft of the application and provide professional feedback to the applicant.
